Organizing against corporations or governments that might retaliate against your website? You can fight back and secure your WordPress website by installing a security plugin. I recommend the free WordFence plugin. Go to your WordPress.org Dashboard and click on Plugins. Type WordFence in the search box and then click Install. When installed click Activate.
Then, don’t try and finish the install by just clicking around, use this tutorial and install it properly!

Lastly, if you might have people trying to take down your website you should also be backing up your website. Then, if your website ever gets hacked, or your assistant webmaster accidentally… uh, I don’t know what happened… you can easily restore a working copy of your website. There are many Backup plugins, and I’d recommend paying for one that gives you support if you need to restore your website. However, if you want a free one, here is how to install the well-regarded BackWPup: http://www.wpbeginner.com/plugins/how-to-create-a-complete-wordpress-backup-for-free-with-backwpup/.
Keep your website safe with security and backup software. Free. Of course free comes with no support, if you want to be able to call support and get help, then you have to pay for the premium version of any software. But having no plugins for security and backups you will be really sorry some day, better to look for a volunteer or fundraise to get your website fixed from your free security plugin/backup than to be sitting there with a useless hacked website. So, even if you can’t afford paid plugins AND you aren’t technical enough to restore your own website without support, you should still install ASAP. Do it now!
